Tuesday, October 13th, 2009Do your tanks leak after the winter layup?
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009It is worth checking your tanks thoroughly after the winter layup. Condensation in steel fuel tanks can cause untold problems including corrosion and water in the filters possibly causing your engine to stop. If your stainless or mild steel fuel tank was not left full over the winter layup then it will almost certainly have a small amount of water content. Our climate in the UK provides the ideal conditions for water vapour to condense out on the tank sides. This can often be seen on the outside of the tank, sometimes known as sweating.
Another source of corrosion is tanks sitting on foam or rubber. At Tek Tanks we see many stainless steel, aluminium and mild steel tanks with corrosion problems. Quite often the corrosion can be clearly seen where the tanks have been resting in frames etc. Moisture collects in these areas and is unable to dry out. If your tank is sitting on foam or rubber, then it would be worth checking and even replacing of possible with a non absorbent or closed cell product.
Tek Tanks polyethylene tanks do not suffer with corrosion problems and almost totally eliminate condensation, within fuel tanks.Every Tek Tanks custom tank comes with a 5 year warranty as standard and peace of mind with our CE certification. Should you steel or aluminium tank have a leak, then give us a call for a quote…. you never know, we may have already done one for your model of boat.

Lucas Oil Outerlimits raced in San Benedotto Del Tronto in Italy, managing a 5th Place , due to hitting a submerged object and both propellers being destroyed. Everything on Lucas Oil Outerlimits was checked, ready for the race on Sunday.
Everything started well on Sunday, but regrettably due to the vibration caused in the race the day before, part of the throttle system broke. Unfortunately, this happened at the start of the race, so they had to withdraw. However the next race is in 4 weeks, and all us here at Tek-Tanks wish all the team better luck!
Lucas Oil OuterlimitsYoung British Solo Circumnavigator Heads for Record Books
Tuesday, October 13th, 2009A 17 year old British sailor Mike Perham set out from Panama on the final stage of his record attempt to become the youngest solo yachtsman to take on the world. Sailing the Open 50 race yacht TotallyMoney.com Mike set out on this extraordinary odyssey from Gunwharf Quay Portsmouth, England on 15th November 2008 and now expects to make a triumphant return within four weeks.
Mike from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, first hit the headlines two years ago when he became the youngest person ever to sail across the Atlantic single-handed at the age of just fourteen – a record recognised by the Guinness Book of Records.
Michael Perham abroad his Open 50 yacht Totallymoney.com during his record attempt to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the world alone.During Mike’s circumnavigation, he has overcome everything nature can throw at him including storm force winds and 50ft seas. He has also had to overcome major problems with his yacht’s self-steering system, rudder bearings and electrics. Stopping for repairs added months to the voyage and led to Mike missing the seasonal weather window for rounding Cape Horn. Continued bad weather in the Southern Ocean, surfing down waves at crazy speeds up to 28knots, eventually forced the teenager to sail much further north than he had intended and sensibly, he re routed his return to the Atlantic via the Panama Canal.
Mike’s daily blogs and videos have been an inspiration to thousands who read and watch them each day. Mixing picturesque sunsets with ferocious seas, he describes with remarkable insight, his encounters with whales and dolphins, – and contrasting rubbish that litter the sea.
Mike said today: ‘I’m finally on the last leg and it feels just great. I only have about 5,000 miles to go, so I am hoping to be home inside four weeks. I really can’t wait, but I won’t push the boat too hard, as I would not want anything to happen that might have been preventable.’
Mike has many sponsors, including Tek-Tanks. For more information please visit Mike’s website.
