Floating Berthing Dock Project

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

We are pleased to announce our involvement in a project with the University of Southampton.

The project is built on the innovatve concept of a floating berthing dock for mid size racing yachts.

The primary purpose for the device is to create a working platform to facilitate the repair and maintenance of yachts. The dock will have
a displacement of 7 tones and capability of lifting yachts about 2 meters above the water.

All other project details are kept strictly confidential. We can only say that we will be supporting this project by supplying our plastic tanks.
The University of Southampton and the design team reserve all the intellectual property rights associated with the idea.

Ocean Pedal Challenge

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Tek-Tanks are pleased to announce their involvement with the Ocean Pedal Challenge.
Brothers Kieran and Shaun are going to cross 3000 miles Atlantic Ocean, using nothing but pedal power in their one-of-a kind human powered ocean pedal craft the “Lydia Rose” to raise money for the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.
They hope to complete the challenge in 30 to 35 days claiming an impressive Five World Records for the UK.

We have been asked to supply two 57 litre Series C water tanks (TT-5013) and one 32 litre Series C water tank (TT-5012).

With the boat in place, the date of the crossing was set for December when the intrepid two will set sail from Puerto De Morgan in Gran Canaria heading South West on a course for Barbados.
There will be no support vessels close by should they get into difficulty and help could be up to three days away!

Good luck to all involved!

13 – Unlucky for some!

Thursday, May 5th, 2011

Tek-Tanks have decided not to issue a Serial Label for their 13,000th tank as we felt it would be unfair on the owner to own a tank with such an unlucky number.
The photograph above shows Mrs Marsh from Plasma Marine being handed her tank by Martin Rye along with a nice bottle of bubbly. The tank Serial Label identified the tank as 13,001 and was a diesel tank for a boat named Vlad in Poole. For more information on Plasma Marine please click here.

Outside help for the Tek-Tanks Team

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

The Tek-Tanks team all firmly believe we make the best plastic tanks….and we do. Knowing this we can sell with confidence and help you choose the right tank for your application.

Regular business coaching by Alex Petty has brought the team on leaps and bounds. Do visit his website for more information.

Funding from Train to Gain allowed us to get Roger Dyer from MAS South East (Manufacturing Advisory Service) to come in and do a complete process mapping exercise in the office and workshop. We mapped out our movements from picking up the phone from the first contact with the customer to shipping the tank and found we had travelled a total distance of 1450 metres! A bit of office equipment shuffling and some pretty major changes in the workshop reduced this to 840 metres for an average tank. This saving in time and movement will enable us the build at least 60 more tanks per year.

David Hudec from Practical Partners has been a huge help with all our operational systems development. By linking our accounts package to some very clever spreadsheets we can now tell exactly what stage each tank is at.
