Floating Berthing Dock Project

Wednesday, December 21st, 2011

We are pleased to announce our involvement in a project with the University of Southampton.

The project is built on the innovatve concept of a floating berthing dock for mid size racing yachts.

The primary purpose for the device is to create a working platform to facilitate the repair and maintenance of yachts. The dock will have
a displacement of 7 tones and capability of lifting yachts about 2 meters above the water.

All other project details are kept strictly confidential. We can only say that we will be supporting this project by supplying our plastic tanks.
The University of Southampton and the design team reserve all the intellectual property rights associated with the idea.

Tek-Tanks Sponsor Lucas Oil Outerlimits in the Powerboat P1 World Championship

Tek-Tanks are sponsoring ‘Lucas Oil Outerlimits’ in the Powerboat P1 World Championship.

Powerboat  P1 is the fastest-growing offshore series in the world – a truly adrenaline-fuelled global odysssey. It’s all about overwhelming sound, blinding speeds and gusty heroes, taking on thier rivals in state of-the-art boats and racing just yards apart as they bounce from wave to wave.

Joe Sgro is the driver, Nigel Hook is in charge of throttles, Mike Fiore is in charge of reverse throttles and Andy Wilby is the reverse driver. Tek-Tanks have supported Andy from when he first started racing in 2000 Rib National Series with his Father. We have continued to support him by supplying fuel tanks to Team Sunseeker.

Andy has now been taken on by Outerlimits powerboats to help the Lucas Oil sponsored No 77 boat, in a reserve and test driver role. When not in the boat Andy also takes on the role of Pit Manager, ensuring the boat is ready for testing and racing at each event.

Lucas Oil Outerlimits raced in San Benedotto Del Tronto in Italy, managing a 5th Place , due to hitting a submerged object and both propellers being destroyed. Everything on Lucas Oil Outerlimits was checked, ready for the race on Sunday.

Everything started well on Sunday, but regrettably due to the vibration caused in the race the day before, part of the throttle system broke. Unfortunately, this happened at the start of the race, so they had to withdraw. However the next race is in 4 weeks, and all us here at Tek-Tanks wish all the team better luck!

Young British Solo Circumnavigator Heads for Record Books

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

A 17 year old British sailor Mike Perham set out from Panama on the final stage of his record attempt to become the youngest solo yachtsman to take on the world. Sailing the Open 50 race yacht TotallyMoney.com Mike set out on this extraordinary odyssey from Gunwharf Quay Portsmouth, England on 15th November 2008 and now expects to make a triumphant return within four weeks.

Mike from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, first hit the headlines two years ago when he became the youngest person ever to sail across the Atlantic single-handed at the age of just fourteen – a record recognised by the Guinness Book of Records.

Michael Perham abroad his Open 50 yacht Totallymoney.com during his record attempt to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the world alone. Michael Perham abroad his Open 50 yacht Totallymoney.com during his record attempt to become the youngest person to circumnavigate the world alone.

During Mike’s circumnavigation, he has overcome everything nature can throw at him including storm force winds and 50ft seas. He has also had to overcome major problems with his yacht’s self-steering system, rudder bearings and electrics. Stopping for repairs added months to the voyage and led to Mike missing the seasonal weather window for rounding Cape Horn. Continued bad weather in the Southern Ocean, surfing down waves at crazy speeds up to 28knots, eventually forced the teenager to sail much further north than he had intended and sensibly, he re routed his return to the Atlantic via the Panama Canal.

Mike’s daily blogs and videos have been an inspiration to thousands who read and watch them each day. Mixing picturesque sunsets with ferocious seas, he describes with remarkable insight, his encounters with whales and dolphins, – and contrasting rubbish that litter the sea.

Mike said today: ‘I’m finally on the last leg and it feels just great. I only have about 5,000 miles to go, so I am hoping to be home inside four weeks. I really can’t wait, but I won’t push the boat too hard, as I would not want anything to happen that might have been preventable.’

Mike has many sponsors, including Tek-Tanks. For more information please visit Mike’s website.
