“TEK-TANKS” NOW ALSO MADE IN SPAIN
BoatWide, is a new company opened in March 2005, in Spain, near Barcelona, manufacturing the ‘Tek Tanks’ range of Tanks and Holding Tanks built in HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) under license.
BoatWide decided to open in Spain due to a newly introduced law stating that Spanish flagged vessels now require a holding tank. Foreign flagged vessels are not obliged to fit holding tanks; however one aspect of the law is that all boats shall “not pollute”, this effectively means that some form of holding facility for black water is advisable. Many boats in Spain may have had inadequate tanks fitted solely in order to comply with the law. After a seasons use, the tanks are found to be sub-standard or because a standard tank has been used, it simply does not have enough capacity. A custom made tank has walls 10mm thick and strong 10mm welds, and makes use of all the available space in order to maximise capacity.
The company is using the Tek-Tanks design and production system (developed over 10 years and 6,000 tanks) to manufacture products from 10mm thick High Density Polyethylene, ensuring high quality production standards. Custom tanks are made to exact customer specifications, with a wide range of plastic and brass fittings, inspection hatches, dip tubes, senders and gauges.
They are the perfect solution for holding tanks. The walls are very strong there are no smells from the contents and they can be made to fit into the available space. They also meet ISO 8099 Standard for toilet retention systems. All tanks are pressure and vacuum tested to at least 28 Kpa (4 p.s.i.). The ISO standard only requires 20 Kpa (2.9 p.s.i.).
Tanks made by this system can also be used to hold grey water, diesel, and drinking water, as Polyethylene is a food grade material.
BoatWide has already manufactured and delivered over 30 tanks in Spain and customers include a major Spanish company and a growing number of marine chandleries, shipyards and boat manufacturers.
Martin Rye of Tek-Tanks and Stephen Johnson (ex Cruising Manager of the RYA and now the owner of BoatWide), both say that they are looking forward to developing the relationship to service a far greater geographical sector of the boating market.
